FAQ
For 40 years we've been helping our customers create their dream garden space.
If you have any questions not covered here, do get in touch.
What are the benefits of having a pergola?
A pergola adds style and function to your outdoor space, offering shade and shelter for outdoor activities.
Our 100% aluminium pergolas are also highly durable, low-maintenance, and resistant to the elements, rust, and corrosion.
They are available in various sizes and styles to suit your needs and can create a cosy outdoor living area while enhancing the aesthetic appeal of your garden.
Is the Pergola roof waterproof?
Yes, when the louvres of our pergolas are fully closed, the roof is completely weatherproof in standard conditions.
Rainwater runs from the roof louvres into a hidden gutter system and then drains down internally, through the legs. However, during severe weather conditions and heavy rain, there may be a slight leakage as excessive water cannot flow through the drainage quickly enough and may spill over, similar to guttering on a home or an external drain.
Can the pergolas be used in all weather conditions?
Yes, our aluminium pergolas are specifically designed to withstand various weather conditions.
The reinforced roofs are fully waterproof when closed, and they are built to withstand up to 80 kg/sqm of snow. The snow is then drained away into an internal gutter system.
During extreme weather conditions, it is recommended to keep the roof louvres slightly open to allow the wind to pass through the structure.
Additionally, it is advised to fully open the side screens when the pergola is not in use and during strong winds to prevent any damage or movement.
What are the pergolas made of?
Our range of pergolas are made of 100% aluminium with steel foot plates and fixings.
Can your pergolas be customised?
Yes! Our pergolas can be customised to fit your unique needs and preferences. For instance, you can choose between manual or electric roof control, and opt for side screens to enhance privacy and wind protection. At LuxSol, we strive to provide flexible solutions that fit your outdoor living requirements.
Are side screens included with LuxSol pergolas, or do I need to purchase them separately?
Crafted with the same anthracite grey powder-coated aluminium, they seamlessly integrate with our pergolas adding to the functionality and aesthetic appeal of our pergolas. They are not included by default but can be purchased separately.
Easily controlled manually, our screens offer any height position for optimal sun exposure and privacy and feature a robust zipped frame design that provides additional protection against wind and rain.
The water-repellent, fade-resistant, anti-bacterial, and mould-resistant mesh fabric ensures durability with minimal maintenance. The open basket textile weave provides semi-transparency, allowing you to control natural light with 94% UV protection.
While sturdy, it's essential to fully open and retract the screens when not in use and during high winds to preserve their strength and longevity. In the event of the screens popping out of the frame during gusty weather, they can be easily zipped back into place.
Are your pergolas easy to install?
Our pergolas come with clear installation instructions to guide you through the process. Additionally, we offer installation services for those who prefer to have our team handle the installation*. Our team will typically take between 3-5 hours to assemble the pergola, depending on its size.
Our pergolas can be installed on a variety of surfaces, including concrete, wood, and paving stones, and you have the option of placing them next to your house or leaving them freestanding.
Our installation service* requires a flat and level base with a slight slope of approximately 10 mm in one direction for proper drainage to ensure a smooth installation and optimal performance.
*Please keep in mind that installation services are subject to T&Cs and only available within a 30-mile radius of our Cheshire showroom depot .
What size and type of base do I need for installing LuxSol pergolas?
For a smooth installation and optimal performance, it's essential to have a flat and level base. We recommend a slight slope of approximately 10 mm in one direction for proper drainage. Our recommended base options include smooth flag paving, timber or composite decking, or a concrete foundation. Please keep in mind that side screen alignment cannot be guaranteed on an uneven base. For detailed guidance on specific measurements, refer to our handy measuring guides.
How many side screens do I need?
This will depend on what size pergola you buy and what you want to achieve. Refer to our handy guide here.
How do I maintain my pergola?
Our pergolas are designed with low maintenance in mind. They can be easily cleaned with mild soap and water. To ensure longevity we recommend occasional inspections to check for wear and tear, and annual lubrication on all moving parts with products such as WD40 in early Spring and later Autumn, as well as clearing any debris from the gutter in order to ensure effective drainage.
How should I clean my pergola?
Use a damp cloth with warm water to remove any dust or dirt from the structure. Be careful not to rub grit into the structure as it may scratch the structure. It is always advised to clear debris from the gutter in order to ensure effective drainage.
What is the warranty on your pergolas?
Our pergolas come with a three year warranty on the frame and a one year warranty on slide screens and louvres.
What is the difference between a pergola and a gazebo?
While similar, pergolas and gazebos have some key differences.
A gazebo is more enclosed with a closed roof, whereas pergolas are typically more open and airy with an open roof.
Do you offer nationwide delivery and installation?
We offer FREE nationwide UK mainland delivery on all pergola orders. There will be a delivery charge for accessories bought without a pergola.
We currently offer installation services within a 30-mile radius of our Cheshire showroom depot. Our pergolas are designed for easy self-assembly, and we include clear instructions to guide you through the process. If you have any questions or require assistance, our team is always here to help.
Do I need to get planning permission to install a LuxSol pergola?
Our pergolas are 2.5m high and so fall under ‘permitted development’ status. In any case, please refer to the Planning Portal for advice if you’re unsure on your specific location requirements.
